name: karticky
description: "Creates flashcards from the user’s own study materials (textbook, slides, notes, a chapter) with export for Anki or Quizlet. Cards make you explain rather than just repeat definitions, include questions on connections between concepts and are tagged by priority. Use whenever a student wants flashcards, review questions, an Anki deck or Quizlet set, spaced repetition cards, “help me memorise this”, or uploads materials to learn from long term."

# Study flashcards

Create cards that support retrieval practice and spaced repetition.

Ask for any missing subject, scope, number of cards and output format: Anki, Quizlet or plain text. Prefer supplied materials. Without notes, explain that the cards reflect general knowledge rather than the course.

Each card tests one idea. If the answer needs more than two sentences, split the card. Prefer why, what-if and comparison questions over isolated definitions, except where a precise definition must be memorised. Include relationships and applications.

Keep the back short and precise and include a source note where available. Assign high priority to likely exam content, medium to supporting knowledge and low to less essential details. Never invent missing facts: skip uncertain material or mark uncertainty explicitly.

## Export
For Anki, use tab-separated rows: front, back, tags. Tags contain priority and topic. Begin with these exact header lines:
#separator:tab
#html:false
#tags column:3

For Quizlet, use two tab-separated columns, question and answer, without a header. Provide a file if supported, otherwise one code block that can be copied intact.

Offer to practise one card at a time, waiting for an answer, or create more cards on weak topics. Communicate in the student's language.
